The Enemy Within

(1)

Two left-over beers and tonight's State of the Union event were all the excuse I needed to revisit (tap) you. (It doesn't take much!) Not that I'll watch the speech; I prefer my Bushisms filtered through Liberal Media. (Is there any way to morph 'nuculer' into 'nuclear?' No? Yeesh.)

It isn't just Bush. I once picked up a library book titled, 'The Critique of Pure Reason.' After a few pages I put it back thinking, 'Huh?' Years later I would discover the value of second-hand information which had been filtered through a knowlegeble intermediary, and nowadays when I read Kant it is through, for example, Will Durant. I never read Kant directly. Not that Bush equals Kant. Far from it.

As I see it the 'State of the Union' is precarious: we are poised on the cusp of a war with Islam Itself. (After having sat through about an hour of quackery I gave up and came back to my blog. Bush is The Anti-Christ and Jesus is a chimp. We are in deep doo-doo.) Here is the central (boom) pernicious dogma: 'To win the war on terror we must take the fight to the enemy.'

Nonsense. 'Taking the fight to the enemy' will only only inflame enemy passion; will only act to recruit more enemy. We need to realize that 'the enemy' are old and odius ideas themselves. Nothing more. We need to ridicule the enemy, including the enemy within, including Bush. We need to recognize that the real enemy is old and odious religion - and not only old and odius Mohammedanism but old and odius Judaism and old and odius Christianity. Our enemies are religion and emotion. Our friends are Science (and her consort, Technology) and Reason.

One last quote from Bush the Anti-Christ: 'The evil that inspired and rejoiced in 9-11 is still at work in the world.'

Yep. And we saw it tonight as we watched the State of the Union speech.

The Circumcision Cult

(1)

Newsweek printed this story recently, about the same circumcision/AIDS study I referred to in a previous post. I found the comments very interesting in the sense that all commentators had negative impressions of the 'study,' an obvious propaganda ploy of the Circumcision Cult. By the way, I am wondering whether the fact that circumcision reduces sexual pleasure in both the male and the female, significantly affected the result. Did circumcision reduce sexual activity? Did that affect the result? Almost certainly.

And interestingly, The Circumcision Cult has begun to refer to us (you and me) as the Anti-circumcision Cult. But since circumcision violently alters a natural state, it is clear where the label of 'cult' should reside. There is also a female circumcision cult.

This year's (2006) Science News you may have missed.

And obviously I have opted for a Tuesday night performance instead of waiting for Friday night. The new plan is to visit with you again on New Year's Eve (Sunday night), skipping Friday.

Sermon in Lieu of Attendance

(2)
I was pleasantly surprised by this week's sermon warning from the Arapahoe Road Baptist Church. Wow. What a subject. But what could it mean? Is it some sort of Rorschact inkblot test? How do you create a sermon out of that?
No doubt the sign generated huge curiosity 'mongst the faithful. No doubt many will attend tomorrow's sermon with 'bated breath. 'What can it mean?! This is exciting! Is Jesus just around the corner?!' Is Jesus in your rear view mirror?
There is no doubt that such a subject is open to a multitude of possible sermonistic interpretations, and that the sermonizer will come up with a religiously acceptable version. But where does that leave me? Sheeit. I have to do a sermon on this? Ok...
I associate rear view mirrors with the idea of being followed. Who is behind me? Am I being followed? If so should I give a turn signal? (By the way, this edition of Friday Night Drunk is being brought to you by Mozart: Piano Concerto #21.)
These considerations having been stated I will launch into my Sermon in Lieu of Attendance:
----------
'Rear view mirror' refers to modern technology. Do you have a rear view mirror? Thank Technology. Technology needs Science. Thank Science. Science needs fearless curiosity. Thank fearless curiosity.
But it doesn't end there: Science needs logic. Science needs integrity. Illogical science doesn't work. Scam science doesn't work. You can't create a vaccine out of pipe dreams.
----------
End of sermon.
