Little Dicky Meets... Acid

(1)

Here is an interesting post done by a medical student. The comments are equally interesting.

I Googled 'circumcision fetish' and selected this. Unbelievable.

Naughty Spiders

(1)

This innocent link can lead to a really mind-bending amount of information. This, for example. If you read (or scroll) all the way to the bottom you find stuff like this and this, and it seems to go on forever! I liked this one too.

Goodbye Dialup!

(1)

Been an interesting morning. Satisfied with my new cable connection, and that I had no further use for my msn dialup connection, I dialed msn one last time to send myself an email at my new email address. Bad idea. When I hung up msn for the last time and tried to access my new cable service (Comcast) my browser would always try to dial the connection! It acted as if the cable connection was non-existent.

So I was forced to do another system restore and reinstall some of the Mcafee security software. Once the software was up and running again it immediately detected the presence of a trojan called 'reg/seeker.' Almost certainly, reg/seeker was the original problem, and was 'inserted' at the time I tried to download an update to msn on April 5th. The update was probably used as 'cover' for inserting the trojan.

If that is correct it is further proof that my computer/web activities are under constant surviellance by folks who do not have my best interests at heart.

Interestingly, I had done a complete system scan after installing the new security software (Mcafee) yesterday and 'reg/seeker' was one of 20 (!) infected or 'potentially unwanted' files which were then cleaned/deleted. So... when I signed in to msn this morning I did so with a 'clean' computer and 'reg/seeker' was inserted again while I was doing the email.

After the second 'reg/seeker' was deleted I did another system scan later this morning and no problems were found.

Cable

This is yet another test. So far it looks like cable is a huge improvement over phone lines.

Munge - Demunge

(1)

I finally got around to reading this today. Frankly, it does not impress me. The idea seems to be to use one file as a key to encrypt another file. The author calls it, 'munging.' The two files to be 'munged' are called the 'basis file' (the encryption key) and the 'element file' (the file to be encrypted). Once 'munged' (encrypted), the resulting file is called 'the mono file.' The 'mono file' can then be transmitted without regard for copyright laws (says the author). Anybody who has the key (the 'basis file') can 'demunge' (decrypt) the 'mono file' file to reproduce the element file. Big deal.

The method of encryption, binary addition - no carry, has been around for a long time. As to the legal aspects I can't comment, knowing nothing about such matters.

Problem Fixed

(1)

Still having password/logon problems but on the other hand I am learning quite a bit about how to approach fixing such problems. (That was yesterday.)

Today I did a 'system restore' back to April first. It fixed the problem, the nature of which is still a mystery. Frequently during the process the mad wall-banger upstairs was beating his head (or something) against one of the walls.

Regarding this link I count myself an enthusiastic J-Lo fan.

Password Problems Continue

(1)

Still no luck getting rid of the 'remembered password.' It always pops up when I try to connect and has to be removed and my current password typed in for me to be able to connect. Good news is that I continue to learn.

Interesting claims about binary/digital information being made here. I am a skeptic at first glance but will revisit the site next week.

Increasing my GQ.

(1)

Been spending lots of time troubleshooting my internet connection yesterday and today. The trouble began after I attempted to download and install an msn8 update. The good news is that the time spent is paying off in increased geekiness. I was getting a bit tired of C-III anyway and welcomed the chance to try something different for a change. I could have called msn support, of course, but why not try it myself first?

Results are mixed: I was able to re-establish the connection but in the process disengaged Explorer and msn8 such that if I want them up at the same time I have to call them separately - but I like it like that.

And just recently this evening there has been what appears to be hackery - changing my (remembered) password in the computer such that I had to type the correct password in manually. Deleting and then recreating the connection appeared to work at first, but the bogus 'remembered password' showed up again. Hmm. I wonder how they can do that...

Never too young?

Babies visit shrinks here. The cartoon shows a baby in diapers conversing with a bearded shrink. No dialogue is supplied, so you get to make up your own. I imagine they are discussing the efficacy of circumcision...

Japanese accents here. Kootch's pronounciation is about as good as (or maybe slightly better than) the first three.
