The Brain From Top to Bottom.

(3)
Speaking of 'the brain' it is a fairly recent discovery. Really. Back in the old days nobody had a clue about what it was. It was just... there behind the eyeballs. Chop somebody's head open and there it was... WTF!? Other organs were obviously designed to do specific things: Legs walked. Mouths talked. Penises peed. And I could go on and on. But the brain was a mystery. Human behavior was the result of the 'human soul.' God created us humans about 6000 years ago in the Garden of Eden and gave every one of us a Soul. It was our 'soul' which 'animated us.' Our souls were immortal, and god would burn us in hell forever if we did not behave properly. Really.
Nowadays we know that it is our brains, our CNS, which makes us human. There is no evidence whatsoever for a 'soul.' When our brains die, we die. It's a classic good news - bad news situation: 'Yes, there is no Hell; no, we don't live forever.' I'll take it! (Back from the fridge with beer #7 at 1755. Only 11 beers left.)
Which brings us to the point of this post: Our Brain. I was so fascinated with the recent 'Paradise Engineering' series of posts that I began researching The Brain and stumbled on The Brain from Top to Bottom. The site has three categories (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). I naturally selected the 'Intermediate' category. Lotsa good information. Highly recommended.
